If haunted horsemen, giggling ghouls and crazed psychos give you the grils, the spook stories at Thunderbolt Casino are gif! They’ll curdle the blood and add a shiver to the spine. If you are brave enough, you can smack right back and get Rands in return!

How does taking a swing at spooky characters convert into South African currency? Land a firm right hook and you’ll be free to lock and load Horseman’s Prize on your device. In this online slot machine, the horseman is headless – and, eish, that is enough to get anyone quaking in their shoes.

Beware the Headless Horseman? Nay! Cheer Him On!

Now for the good news, Bolters. When the headless horseman rushes the reels, you are good to win (at least one) jackpot! Ja, nee! All told, there are six crates of seriaaas cash tottering about on the grid.

That is over and above standard payouts that range from 10 x to 200 x the payline wager. Add wilds, spooky spectral flames, free games and random sticky multipliers to the action and there is plenty to play for at Thunderbolt Online and Mobile Casino.

Eeek! An Auto-Expanding Grid

Now for the mystical shoo-wee component of the fresh new slot machine. When the free spins ring in, the gameboard promptly expands from a 30-payline grid to a 50-line cash generator. That has to mean there is something weird going on!

How does an online slot machine feature in our spooky stories for around the braai? Well, the game is based on the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. That is an iconic American tale that has kept generations of kids scared right out of their wits.

You can find out about the legend online… or stay right here and get genuine goosebumps. We’ll start off our spook stories with the ghost rider of Tokai. That is as South African as bokkoms, boerewors and Thunderbolt Casino!

The Hapless Horseman of the Tokai Manor House

If you know Cape Town, you’ll know the Tokai Manor House is a grand old Cape Dutch style mansion located on the fringe of Tokai Forest. It was designed by the famed French architect, Louis Thibault, and built in 1796. As with Thunderbolt Casino, it is unapologetically South African.

One of the early owners of the house was a guy named Eksteen. This fellow loved to party and was renowned for holding wild banquets, especially on New Year’s Eve. One year, things went horribly wrong.

The Wager That Went Horribly Wrong

In a state of advanced intoxication, father and son took a wager. The dare? To ride up the Manor’s steep exterior staircase and into the dining room… on a horse.

The son was first off and managed the ascent with relative ease. He and his horse circled the dining room table but when navigating back down the stairs, the horse tripped and the two crashed to the ground. The son snapped his neck and died of his injuries.

Reports of the Horseman Linger On… 225 Years Later

As rumour has it, the horse and rider still haunt the woods at night. Over the years, forest workers have seen the horseman of Tokai, galloping at speed towards the manor house. Others have reported laughing, loud neighing and wild reverie emanating from the long vacant house in the dead of night.

It appears as though young Frederick Eksteen rides on, 225 years later! Would you enter the forest at night? Our horseman may not be headless and he is relatively benign but you never know… he may still have an axe to grind!

OMG… The Housemates and the Resident Ghost!

In the 1990s, two students were sharing an old, semi-detached house in Mowbray. At night, the house seemed to come alive. The students decided the creaking, bumping, whistling and thumping were due to the wind and age of the building, and thought nothing more of it… until one evening!

As students do, the pair went off to a party with friends. After a couple of drinks, one student wanted to take a few photos but couldn’t find his phone. He looked in his pockets, in his bag and under the table but there was no sign of the missing device.

Ring, Ring… Ghosty Here!

He borrowed his housemate’s phone and rang his number. After a few rings, someone answered in a low rasping voice, whispered something indecipherable, giggled and hung up. The guy rang a few more times but there was no answer.

The two headed home and the phone was lying on the side table, where he had left it. There was no-one in the house, no signs of a break-in and no-one else had keys! That night there was even more activity and unexplained noises than before!

The next morning, the students called the rental agent, gave a month’s notice and moved out! No-one who rented the same accommodation has ever stayed for the full rental term. Eerie or what?

Accidental Meeting or a Psycho Rubbing It In?

On a cold, wet and icy night, a doctor on night duty was driving to the hospital on a lonely road. It was raining, the mist was particularly thick and he could hardly see the road in front of him. He slowed down and continued carefully on his way.

Suddenly a car pulled up behind him and flicked its lights. As a doctor, he felt obliged to stop and help if anyone was in distress. As he alighted from his car, so did the other driver – a large burly man with a weird, wicked smile on his face.

A Teddy Covered in Blood

The doctor asked him what he wanted and the man handed him a soft, pink teddy bear covered in blood. He then jumped in his car and rode off. The doctor immediately recognised the toy as his young daughter’s.

By now frantic with fear, the doctor turned the car around and sped home. The police were already there, waiting for him. His wife and two children had been found bludgeoned to death only minutes earlier!
